SEEDS Fundraiser

The Ask: Create a fundraising t-shirt for a youth creative non-profit celebrating Black and Brown empowerment and highlighting arts and culture as a source of resilience.

SEEDS is a Des Moines-based non-profit dedicated to providing youth with knowledge of self through cultural empowerment, creative expression, and entrepreneurship. For a fundraising event, I was asked to design a t-shirt for potential donors and community members centering the importance of access to arts for youth development.

Community is at the center of this organization and fundraiser. Initial design suggestions for this project included vintage photos of Des Moines residents. Rather navigating the usage rights for printing these images for resale, I leaned into creating a nostalgic vibe for the shirt through creative design elements. This included utilizing the brand’s logo to create a vintage picture frame-inspired border. Imagery within the frame included statements and numbers significant to the brand and its mission. An aged effect was applied to all and the frame was hand illustrated to create a more unique and personal effect.

Each element of the design was intentional. The color palette utilized color psychology and featured colors that signified nostalgia, connected to simpler times and created feelings of warmth and familiarity.

Though this project has not been completed due to factors above my control, I am proud of the design and art direction work that went into it. Included are photos of the process.
